In the middle of all this research and writing about Aotearoa, one song showed up that didn't seem to match anything else on the record. Instead it seemed to be a type of apology to a long suffering lover. The more I scratched the surface the more the song revealed it's true heart, addiction.
I really love this song and I chose to keep it on the record even though it doesn't relate to the project brief but it just has to many positives, the rhyming couplets in the verses, the simple power chord song structure, the guitar solo, the glockenspiel, but mostly I like this flawed character trying to explain away his misbehavior (whatever it is - multiple transgressions is my guess). The thing that gives it away to me is the line "Babe, I'm tired, I just want to lie here next to you". So manipulative.
